The 25-year-old Michael Meusert from the namesake winery in Fahr am Main in Franconia is the Young Winemaker of the Year 2025 in Germany. He emerged as the winner of the Federal Wine Award of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). He completed his studies in viticulture and oenology in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in 2022 with the best bachelor thesis of his year in the field of oenology. He completed internships, among others, at the VDP winery Max Müller I**** in Volkach and the Schreckbichl Winery**** in South Tyrol. In 2024, he took over the family business as managing director.

Meusert has modernized the 400-year-old winery with seven hectares of vineyard area. He introduced non-alcoholic products under the name “Meusert Zero,” planted Piwis, and restructured the product range. Additionally, he expanded the tourist offerings with wine festivals, wine tastings, and cultural collaborations. He gained trade partners and gastronomy, including star restaurants, as new customers. Under his leadership, events such as the local wine festival or the crowning of a wine princess were revived after an eight-year hiatus. He is also currently advancing the planning of a central irrigation system for 50 hectares of vineyard area in his hometown.

Regarding his award, Michael Meusert says: “Especially in this challenging time for German viticulture, it is important to me not to lose heart. Even though overall less wine is being consumed, I feel that many people are excited about our wonderful wine culture – for the stories, the emotions, and the enjoyment that we winemakers and our wines embody.”

The “DLG Young Winemaker of the Year” award is presented annually as part of the Federal Wine Award to German wine talents for outstanding achievements in the fields of oenology, wine business, and personality.
