In California, many wineries are in danger because of massive and difficult to control forest fires. By the weekend, almost 90,000 hectares of forest, vineyards and agricultural land had burned down, for example in the Napa Valley and Sonoma regions, the regional fire department reports. Several wineries and vineyards have already been destroyed. In addition, winegrowers are currently trying to bring in their harvest despite the danger posed by the firewalls. Several times they had to take shelter due to the extreme heat waves. In addition, the smoke is causing them severe problems, as it can destroy the aromas of the grapes. Often vineyards would act as protective walls against the spread of the fires, but during heat waves they too are completely destroyed, the fire brigade reported in local media. Currently, 23 fires are spreading simultaneously in California.
