Bodegas De Los Herederos Del Marqués De Riscal**** in Rioja is "World's Best Vineyard" 2024, recognising the Spanish winery, which came second in 2021, 2022 and 2023, as the most beautiful wine tourism destination of the year. Founded in 2019, the competition publishes an annual ranking of the "50 most extraordinary places around wine" and aims to promote wine tourism. It recognises the experiences that wineries offer their visitors, such as landscapes, history, exceptional restaurants and wine tours.
The landmark of the "City of Wine" of Marqués de Riscal is the hotel designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry and opened in 2006, complete with Michelin-starred restaurant. The VIK winery in Chile, located in a 4,300-hectare nature reserve, took second place, while Creation in South Africa came third with its gourmet tasting menus and educational tours.
Bodegas Ysios in Spain came fourth and was awarded the prize for the biggest climber, having moved up 67 places compared to the previous year. Schloss Johannisberg**** in Germany, often described as the birthplace of Riesling, follows in fifth place.
Champagne house Maison Ruinart**** came sixth, followed by Château Smith Haut Lafitte**** (Bordeaux), Abadía Retuerta (Spain), Weingut Dr Loosen**** (Mosel) and Durigutti Family Winemakers' Finca Victoria in Argentina. Domäne Wachau**** from Austria is in 33rd place, up from 14th place last year. The complete ranking is available at World's Best Vineyards.
