The Tuscan winery Ornellaia dedicates its new vintage 2023 to the guiding theme "La Vitalità" (Vitality) – and this time has the artist labels designed by Marina Abramović. She is considered one of the most famous performance artists in the world. The artist bottles are part of the "Vendemmia d’Artista" series, which is being released for the 18th time this year.
With her participation in the Vendemmia d’Artista, Abramović aims to give this vintage an additional cultural dimension. The labels designed by the 79-year-old artist are intended to interpret the central motif of vitality and highlight the connection between creative energy in art and viticulture.
The 2023 vintage is considered by the winery to be a particularly harmonious interplay of nature and human intervention. According to Ornellaia, the terroir allowed for a particularly even development of the vines. The climatic conditions supported growth "at all stages and maintained a natural balance." This interplay has promoted the "vital energy" of the vines and led to an intense yet balanced wine.
Marco Balsimelli, technical director of Ornellaia, describes the growing year as favorable but labor-intensive. Sensorially, Ornellaia 2023 "La Vitalità" is said to be powerful and surprisingly fine, according to Balsimelli. The wine vibrates with energy.
Since 2009, Ornellaia has invited significant artists each year to creatively reflect the character of the respective vintage. Abramović thus joins an international roster of renowned positions in contemporary art.
