Marc Almert is the new Managing Director of the Swiss wine trading house Baur au Lac Vins. He succeeds the late Managing Director Jimmy Roser, who unexpectedly passed away in November at the request of the owner family Kracht. Almert has been the head sommelier at the Zurich hotel Baur au Lac since 2017 and has been a member of the management of the wine trade for three years.
Born in Cologne in 1991, Almert has received numerous international awards. In 2019, he became the second German after Markus del Monego to win the title of Sommelier World Champion. His approach to wine is: "You don’t have to read an entire library to understand wine. Anyone, regardless of background or level of knowledge, can venture into the topic of wine and enjoy this multifaceted world."
The wine trading house celebrated its 180th anniversary in 2024 and offers over 3,000 wines and spirits from more than 300 producers worldwide, about 100 of which are represented in general. In addition to five wine shops and an online store for private customers, Baur au Lac Vins also supplies Swiss gastronomy and the specialist trade.
