The artist's label for the 2020 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild***** was presented. It was designed by the Scotsman Peter Doig, who is considered one of the most renowned living figurative painters. He describes the work as a "dreamscape" and "homage to the people who work in the vineyard and harvest the grapes". "The painting shows something of what goes on behind the scenes in winemaking," he said at the label launch. It is "a kind of ode to the workers" involved in making wine.

For this, Doig researched previous Mouton labels in order not to "step on the toes" of any of his predecessors, as he reported at the event. But he had "not seen anything that really related to this aspect of wine production".
He said he was inspired to play the guitar by his good friend, the late Trinidadian artist Embah (Emheyo Bahabba), who played music on a guitar at one of Doig's exhibitions in Paris. Being reminded of his friend, Doig, who himself lives part-time in Trinidad, said he also "thought that maybe sometimes someone walks through the vines and plays the guitar".

Today, Friday 2 December 2022, the auction of a "super lot" of large bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild 2020, including a double magnum signed by Peter Doig and the Rothschild family, ends.
