At the VDP auction in Trier a few days ago, the Wegeler Wineries (Rheingau and Mosel) achieved the price of 3,873.45 Euros for a 0.7 l bottle of their 1959 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from the top vineyard Bernkasteler Doctor. The starting bid was 500 Euros. The vintage is regarded as the vintage of the century. In addition, US President Dwight D. Eisenhower received a case of 1959 "Doctor wine" from the winery in 1962, said Estate Director Tom Drieseberg. He suspects that the wine is the Trockenbeerenauslese, which has now been auctioned off. He said he had four more bottles in his cellar.

A total of more than 13,000 bottles were sold at the Mosel auction in Trier. The commission agents bid for customers all over the world, for example from the USA, Russia, the Scandinavian countries and Asia.
