The Saxon winegrowers' cooperative Meißen (WBG), founded in 2018, will not join the winegrowers' association Freyburg-Unstrut (Saale-Unstrut). This was announced by the cooperative.

The company in Meißen and the winegrowers' association are linked by private shareholdings of the Freyburg management: Andreas Silbersack, chairman of the supervisory board of the Winzervereinigung Freyburg-Unstrut (WVF), and Hans Albrecht Zieger, managing director of the WVF, are giving up their shares in the Weinbau-Gesellschaft Meißen, according to the announcement. Both declared this at a joint meeting of the supervisory board and the board of directors. According to the statement, "the work in the cooperative is more important to them than the economic commitment in the Saxon winegrowing society".

At first, the two wanted to achieve that the WBG Meißen would be accepted as a member of the Freyburg-Unstrut winegrowers' association. At present, however, the statutes only allowed vintners within the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region to become members. An opening of this clause did not receive the required three-quarters majority at the general assembly. Andreas Silbersack and Hans Albrecht Zieger will now "initiate the necessary legal and notarial steps for the exit from the WBG Meißen", which should be completed by summer.
