The Geisenheim University is getting a new president: The internationally renowned expert in plant nutrition, Prof. Dr. Karl H. Mühling, succeeds Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, who led the university for 13 years and is now retiring.
Mühling has been a professor of plant nutrition at the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel since 2007. As dean and deputy dean, he held leading positions there for several years. Before that, he was, among other things, a professor of plant nutrition at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. Between 1999 and 2001, he worked at the University of California at Davis in the USA. He has a large international network in various scientific associations. At the end of January, he was elected by the extended senate of the university in the first round with 21 out of 32 votes. His term will last six years.
The chairman of the Geisenheim University Council, Dr. Hermann Kolesch, described Mühling in his congratulation as an "excellent choice to further develop the many different areas of the university and thereby sharpen its profile." He thanked the outgoing president Hans Reiner Schultz for his outstanding contribution. According to him, Schultz has shaped and advanced the development of the university in a special way.
The term of the newly elected president is set to begin in spring.
