The Swiss-born Jessica Julmy is the new Managing Director of the Spanish winery group Tempos Vega Sicilia and the first woman in this position. She oversees all six wineries of the Álvarez family: Vega Sicilia***** and Alión**** in Ribera del Duero, Pintia in Toro, Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia Macán in Rioja, Oremus in Tokaj (Hungary), and the new white wine project Deiva in Rias Baixas, whose first vintage is set to be released in 2024.
Julmy speaks five languages – English, French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin – and holds a Master's degree from the London Business School. She worked as the international sales director for Champagne Krug***** at the luxury goods company LVMH. She gained experience as a winery director at the rosé winery Château Galoupet in Provence. Since 2023, she has been the sales director of Moët Hennessy in the UK.
Pablo Alvarez, director and representative of the owners of Tempos Vega Sicilia, stated that after two managing directors from outside the wine scene, he now prefers an industry expert: "It is necessary to love wine because it is more than just a business. You have to make money, but you also have to know how to make wine. Jessica brings knowledge, enthusiasm, and love. She will master the future challenges without losing sight of our essence. Certain decisions must still be made by the family."
