Italian sparkling wine production will set a record of around one billion bottles produced in 2022. This is according to figures from the market research department of the Italian wine association Unione Italiana Vini and the agricultural institute Ismea. The production corresponds to a value of 2.85 billion euros, of which 2 billion alone are sold abroad. Around 75 percent of Italian sparkling wines are exported. Thus, the growth engine is also the demand in the key markets USA, Great Britain and Germany. In addition, there are the established and emerging markets such as Canada, Sweden, Japan, Eastern Europe and France, whose customers are increasingly interested in Italian sparkling wines.
Prosecco (DOC, DOCG and Colli Asolani) now accounts for 70 per cent of Italy's total sparkling wine production. Estimates speak of a turnover of 1.65 billion euros. However, the sales figures show a positive development for all sparkling wine appellations in Italy. Especially Trento DOC and Asti Spumante were able to increase compared to the previous year.
