The Italian state compensates wineries affected by flavescence dorée with a total of 3.5 million euros for the period of two years. The corresponding decree was signed by Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida. Thus, 1.5 million euros are earmarked for 2023 and 2 million euros for 2024.

The money is to be used for the clearing and replanting of infested vineyards. The farmers' association Confagicultura welcomes the establishment of the relief fund, but at the same time calls for "A series of coordinated regional and national measures to combat this serious disease, commensurate with the seriousness of the situation." The grapevine disease, also known as"golden yellow blight", is transmitted by the American grapevine cicada.
