In Italy, some 3.5 million hl of wine are to be withdrawn from the market by distillation and green harvesting. The Italian winegrowers' association Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) wants to use this measure to protect its businesses from excess quantities and price falls, reports the German trade magazine wein+markt. According to the report, table wines still in storage are to be distilled. Voluntary green harvesting will also be used to reduce the quantity of IGP and DOP wines from the 2020 vintage. The Italian government is financing both projects with 150 million euros.
