The listed wine company Italian Wine Brands (IWB) takes over the Barbanera winery, founded in 1938, as well as the Fossalto winery owned by the Barbanera family in Cetona (Siena). The purchase price is around 42 million euros. It is the first Tuscan winery owned by IWB.
The wines of the Barbanera group include Duca Di Saragnano, Gigino, Vecciano, Barbanera and Collezione Famiglia Barbanera. The wine collection is produced in Tuscany as well as in Puglia and Sicily. "The Barbanera family reinvests a large part of the proceeds in IWB shares and will continue to work in the company", IWB president Alessandro Mutinelli explained. Marco and Paolo Barbanera, for example, are to remain in charge as current managing directors.
In 2021, the Barbanera Group achieved a turnover of 38.7 million euros with an export share of around 90 per cent.
