The ISVV Research Institute of the University of Bordeaux have developed a kit with odorants to be able to treat covid patients with loss of smell and taste very quickly. The kit, developed over several years of work by a team of researchers from France and overseas even before the Corona pandemic, contains aroma diffusers and intense odour samples of, for example, orange, peppermint and other essential oils. Patients sniff them for several minutes every day and their perception is documented. The test aromas are changed according to the progress in perception.
In addition, the patients are asked to recall the aromas while smelling them. According to the experience of the researchers, even simple imagination helps significantly in restoring smell and taste. The procedure and the protocol have been available free of charge on the ISVV website for a few days.
