On 20 June, the second International Sparkling Wine Symposium will take place at Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences. The event will focus on current issues in the sparkling wine industry. Dr. Matthias Schmitt from the Institute of Oenology will explain the challenges that climate change poses for sparkling wine producers, especially from an oenological perspective.

Prof. Dr. Randolf Kauer and Dr. Johanna Döring from the Chair of Organic Viticulture at Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences will discuss the differences between conventional, organic and biodynamic cultivation in the context of sparkling wine production. The influence of cork on CO2 management in sparkling wine will also be discussed in a workshop. Prof. Dr. Monika Christmann, head of the Institute for Oenology at the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, and Prof. Dr. Simone Loose, head of the Institute for Wine and Beverage Management, will provide information on sparkling wine and additives as well as the effects of compulsory labelling on consumers.

The symposium is aimed at winegrowers, representatives of the trade and gastronomy as well as interested industry insiders. It will take place after the 4th International Sparkling Festival on 19 June in Kloster Eberbach.
