The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has welcomed five new members. Three of them work in Europe, while the other two are in Asia and South America. The new Masters of Wine came to wine through different paths:
Jit Hang Jackie Ang MW from Singapore studied pharmacology and medicine. He is the director of the wine wholesaler Cherwell Wine and Spirits and also works at the national center for experimental drug development in Singapore.
Amanda Barnes MW hails from England and has lived in Argentina for many years. She specializes in South American wines as a journalist, author, presenter, and lecturer.
Sarah Benson MW from the United Kingdom was initially a translator and then worked at the investment company Accolade. She currently oversees the purchasing of wines from France, Spain, South America, and Greece at the consumer cooperative Co-op.
Kathleen Van den Berghe MW from Belgium is a civil engineer and has worked at the consulting firm McKinsey. She now runs two wineries in the Loire that she has transformed herself.
Qian Janice Wang MW is a professor at the Institute of Food Science at the University of Copenhagen. She is from Canada and studied psychology, media sciences, and computer science in Europe and the USA.
This brings the total to 418 active Masters of Wine worldwide in 29 countries. The title Master of Wine (MW) is the highest professional qualification in the wine industry.
