A wine lounge with a wine shop and bar in the supermarket: This innovative offering is provided by the newly opened location of the retail chain Rewe in Bitburg in the Eifel. The bar on the mezzanine above the wine department accommodates up to 35 guests. There, they can drink around 1,000 wines from the supermarket, priced between three and over 300 euros, for an additional charge of ten euros per bottle. Additionally, twelve wines are always served for two to three euros per glass. The selection is set to change monthly. There are also small cold dishes, and a walk-in cigar humidor is included.
Managing Director Jan Müller explained to the daily newspaper Trierer Volksfreund the unusual project for a German supermarket in the mid-price segment: "The wine lounge is meant to be a place of encounter where our customers can enjoy winding down their weekend shopping." Müller had already built a large wine selection at the old location and invited to wine tastings. Although there were no suitable rooms there, the response had been good. Therefore, he decided to make the investment.
The wine shop is regularly open on Fridays and Saturdays from 3 PM to 10 PM. It can be rented by clubs and companies on other weekdays.
