Germany's restaurant and hotel industry recorded around 38 per cent lower sales in price-adjusted terms last year than in 2019, according to initial calculations from the Federal Statistical Office, based on figures from January to November 2020 and an estimate for the lockdown month of December.
According to the figures, their sales in November 2020 plummeted by 52 percent compared to October, adjusted for prices. That figure is actually 67.4 percent lower than February 2020, the last month of normal business before the first lockdown, they said. Compared to November 2019, the losses would be 67.9 percent, adjusted for prices.
In this context, business with accommodation of all kinds had fallen by 82.8 percent in November 2020 compared to 2019, while restaurant sales had fallen by 60.1 percent.
