The annual wine auction at the Hospice de Beaune raised 31 million euros last weekend. According to Sotheby's, this is the "world record for a wine auction". The average price per lot was 39,155 euro, 12 percent more compared to the previous record of 2021. 10.7 million euro were raised for white wines of the Hospice de Beaune and 18.74 million euro for red wines. In addition, top wines and eaux-de-vie from Burgundy went under the hammer.

"The results are historic and spectacular," said hospice director François Poher. For the so-called president's piece, a 228-litre barrel, 810,000 euros were bid. It was auctioned by the wine trading companies Badet Clément, Albert Bichot, Groupe Boisset, Bouchard Père et Fils, Champy, Chanson, Joseph Drouhin, Faiveley, Louis Jadot, Olivier Leflaive, Patriarche and Veuve Ambal. This year, the proceeds will go to two children's charities and will be dedicated to the recently deceased wine merchant Louis-Fabrice Latour.
