The historical, long forgotten red wine variety Nocera from the Roman times of the Marmertinum is to become popular again in Sicily. The renowned Planeta winery has been growing it again since 2015, reports "Drinks Business".

In total, only 30 hectares in Sicily are currently planted with the variety already described by the historian Pliny the Elder. In Calabria there are about 85 hectares of this. But Planeta winemaker Patricia Tóth emphasises that Nocera will "play a very important role in the viticulture of Sicily in the future". The resulting wine has a powerful acidity, spicy notes, a lemon note, saltiness and good structure. Planeta is the first company in Sicily to develop a pure Nocera.
