The wine trading group Hawesko in Hamburg was able to significantly increase sales and earnings in the first nine months of 2020 despite the corona crisis. In the first three quarters of 2020, the group's sales had risen by eleven percent to around Euro 415 million. Earnings more than doubled to Euro 21 to 22 million. Despite the expected restrictions in the catering and hotel sector in the fourth quarter - and thus in the important Christmas business - the Hawesko Board of Management expects, according to its own statements, that an operating result (EBIT) of approximately Euro 33 million will be achieved for the whole of 2020, thus significantly exceeding the previous year's figure of Euro 29.1 million.

The Chairman of the Board of Management of the Hawesko Group, Thorsten Hermelink, commented in a press release: "Thanks to our diversified position in the wine market, we are making good progress through this financial year with all its special features. In the third quarter, we were able to build on the strong business development of the second quarter in the E-Commerce and Retail segments. The B2B segment also showed signs of recovery thanks to the fine summer weather, but Hermelink warns: "For the rest of the year, we are expecting more severe corona-related restrictions for the catering trade and therefore major challenges for the Christmas business in the B2B segment."
