There is currently a very sceptical mood in the wine industry about the Düsseldorf trade fair company's plan to open ProWein 2021 next March on five days with fewer visitors and high hygiene restrictions. German industry representatives are apparently overwhelmingly in favour of a cancellation, reports the "Weinwirtschaft". While Monika Reule, managing director of the German Wine Institute, stated that the DWI, as a member of the supervisory board, would certainly participate if Prowein opened, Joseph Greilinger of Pfalzwein e.V warns in the article: "The trade fair must be careful not to discredit the trade fair location if they want to force the trade fair through in Corona times against the will of a large part of the industry."

Markus Volk, managing director of the Weinland Baden Group, is also in favour of a cancellation, according to his statement in "Weinwirtschaft": "In my opinion, everything should be done to talk Messe Düsseldorf out of its plan to extend ProWein to five days and hold it in March."

Ansgar Schmitz, managing director of Moselwein e.V., emphasised that the extension to five days would "not go down well at all" with participants at the planned regional stand. The interest in participating was therefore "rather low". Due to the Corona situation, many Mosel vintners feared "that the important international visitors, especially from Asia and North America, will not be in Düsseldorf".
