Great Britain is developing into a producer country for sparkling wine and wine. According to the British wine marketing organisation WineGB, around 3,500 hectares of vineyards were already planted in 2018, which is 24 per cent more than in 2017. By way of comparison, the area is slightly larger than the entire Rheingau. According to WineGB, around 15.8 million bottles of wine and sparkling wine were filled in Great Britain in 2018.

If the vineyard area continues to grow at this rate, around 40 million bottles could be filled in 20 years at the latest, said Simon Robinson, Chairman of WineGB. At present, 69 percent of the vineyards produce grapes for sparkling wines, mainly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus.
