The 2022 wine harvest in the Franconian wine-growing region was officially opened. Winegrowers' President Artur Steinmann spoke of a positive vintage. Despite the persistent drought, he expects good qualities, as the winegrowers have gained a lot of experience with dry conditions in the past years and have adjusted well to them: "We see very healthy and optimally ripe grapes this year, and thus the best conditions for elegant and varietal-typical wines of the 2022 vintage". Steinmann thanked the representatives of state politics present, Minister President Markus Söder and Minister of Agriculture Michaela Kaniber, for promoting pilot projects for the irrigation of vineyards. At the same time, he suggested creating a coordinating administration from agriculture and water management to be able to realise site-adapted irrigation concepts.

The Franconian Winegrowers' Association expects a slightly below-average harvest in 2022. The current weather forecasts indicate a speedy harvest.
