The three German top footballers Mats Hummels (left in the picture), Christoph Kramer and Robin Gosens (right in the picture) have jointly brought a wine to market with the renowned VDP winemakers Philipp Kuhn (Palatinate) and H.O. Spanier (Rheinhessen). The Riesling cuvée is named "Autumn Champion" and costs 29 euros. The grapes come from the Zellertal at the border between Palatinate and Rheinhessen, where both wineries own vineyards in the best locations. The vines grow at an altitude of 150 to 220 meters and benefit from the cool microclimate.

The football professionals are, according to their own statements, great wine lovers and therefore wanted to produce their own wine. A sommelier from Mainz established the contact to the two top winemakers. Robin Gosens expresses his enthusiasm: "It is simply a really great experience to be able to accompany such a wine project with everything that goes with it. And to be able to say that you have your own wine."

Winemaker Philipp Kuhn explains the name of the wine: "In football, the autumn champion is somewhat the unfinished. There is never the perfect wine, nature sets the pace, and you cannot calculate nature." Christoph Kramer humorously adds that he has only been the "autumn champion of hearts" so far and has now achieved his first autumn championship through the wine project.

The 2022 vintage of the Riesling is available at www.autumnchampion.de.
