Geisenheim University has presented its new lecture hall building to the public. It includes a large foyer and a divisible lecture hall with 657 seats. A grand staircase leads to the seminar rooms on the upper floor. In one of these rooms, the "CoLAB" is being created with a variable room-in-room concept. Here, students will experience different forms of work through adaptable learning islands, as well as competency-oriented and collaborative teaching and learning.
"With its mix of concrete, strong wooden elements, and large glass panes, as well as a spacious green roof with a PV system, the new building combines functionality, sustainability, and architectural quality," said Thomas Platte, Director of the State Office for Construction and Real Estate in Hesse.
The new lecture hall building is intended not only as a venue for teaching events but also for regional and international conferences. "Geisenheim University is continuously evolving with its practice-oriented study programs and numerous research focuses. With this construction, we strengthen the university's position as a future-oriented, innovative, and attractive teaching and research location. The inauguration of the lecture hall building is an important milestone in the history of Geisenheim University," said Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Geisenheim University, at the opening ceremony of the future new heart and center of the campus.
The construction was financed through the Heureka university program and cost a total of 20 million euros. The building is expected to be operational in the coming two weeks. It is part of the ongoing development of the campus in Geisenheim, which includes five new buildings and further investments in infrastructure.
