The French wine harvest began on 12 August in southern Maconnais. This is the earliest date since records began. In the previous record year 2003, the harvest started on August 20. In the Loire Valley, the development is currently even one month earlier than the statistical average. In Alsace, the harvest is expected to start on Monday, 24 August.

The reason for the early harvest date was the extremely warm spring, which allowed the vines to blossom particularly early. Currently, the agricultural statistics authority Agreste expects a harvest of 44.7 to 45.7 million hl, which is six to eight percent more than in 2019.
