In the first half of 2021, French wine producers exported 7.3 million hectolitres of wine worth 5.2 billion euros. This represents an increase of 15 per cent in volume and 40 per cent in value compared to the first six months of 2020 during the Corona crisis. Moreover, growth increased by 15 per cent in volume and 9 per cent in value compared to the first six months of 2019, meaning that exports of French wines not only surpassed the figures during the first wave of Covid-19, but also achieved growth rates above those of the pre-pandemic period.

However, exports to the top customer, Great Britain, recorded a strong decline. The volume shipped there at the beginning of 2021 was 13 per cent lower than in 2020 and 12 per cent lower than in 2019. Exports to China, on the other hand, recorded a significant boost. Here, the volume increased by 47 per cent and the value by as much as 86 per cent compared to 2020. Compared to 2019, however, the volume fell by 20 per cent in terms of volume and by six per cent in terms of value.
