The well-known Négociant Guigal from the Rhône has taken over the domain Les Clefs d'Or in Chateauneuf-du-Pape at an unknown price. After the renowned Château de Nalys, it is the second prestigious estate in the production area that Guigal has bought. Philippe Guigal stressed that a lot of work had to be done to bring the farm with 35 hectares of vineyards up to the standard expected by his house. The oldest Grenache plot was planted in 1896. The grapes of Les Clefs d'Or will be processed at Château de Nalys from the 2020 vintage onwards.
The owners of Château Mont-Redon have announced the second acquisition at Chateauneuf. The owner family Fabre-Abeille has bought the Domaine de L'Oratoire St.-Martin near Cairanne with about 25 hectares of vineyards. The negotiations with the Alary family, who owned the estate since 1692, had already begun 18 months earlier, the Fabre-Abeille family announced. The farm produces certified organic and biodynamic. Pesticides and chemical fertilizers have not been used there for over 30 years. The wine production in the Domaine de L'Oratoire St.-Martin will continue as before.
