Severe frosts in spring as well as massive downy mildew infestation after heavy rains in summer lead to one of the lowest wine production levels in France's history. This was stated by a spokesman of the French Ministry of Agriculture. According to this, winegrowers are currently expecting a drop in production of between 24 and 30 per cent. Minister Julien Denormandie had already described the frosts in spring as "probably the greatest agricultural disaster at the beginning of the 21st century". France had never experienced such a severe spring frost.
