The value of French wine and spirits exports reached a new record of 17.2 billion euros in 2022 - an increase of almost 11 per cent compared to 2021, according to the Federation of French Wine and Spirits Exporters (FEVS). Thus, wines and spirits are France's second most important export sector after aerospace. However, the volume of exported wines and spirits fell by 3.8 per cent in the same period because the volumes were lower due to the frosts in 2021.

The most important export market was the USA with an increase of 14 per cent to 4.7 billion euros. Great Britain, the second most important market, grew by seven per cent to 1.7 billion euros.

The FEVS expects that the value of exports could increase further this year as China has reopened after the Covid restrictions. At the same time, however, China's National Bureau of Statistics has announced that the wine market in the country has shrunk by 21 per cent - both in terms of own production and the volume of imported wine. However, the Chinese market is expected to slowly recover and grow.
