The finalists for the election of the 69th German Wine Queen have been determined. Silena Werner (Franconia), Charlotte Freiberger (Hessische Bergstrasse), Katharina Staab (Nahe), Anastasia Kronauer (Palatinate), Laura Lahm (Rheinhessen) and Friederike Wachtel (Saxony) will compete against each other on Friday, September 29. The election will be broadcast live on SWR television from 20.15 hrs.

In the preliminary round on Saturday, 23 September in the Saalbau in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, the 13 candidates from the German wine-growing regions had to answer demanding wine questions, some of them in English, in front of an audience of over 800 spectators, identify mistakes in "Wine News" and assert themselves in fast-paced rounds. The answers were checked by a master jury, which included Professor Dr. Monika Christmann, Head of the Institute of Oenology at the University of Applied Sciences Geisenheim and President of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), Peer Holm, President of Sommelier Union Germany, and Werner Eckert, Head of the Environmental Editorial Department at SWR Fernsehen.

"The level of expertise of the candidates was very high this year and their appearance was extremely professional. This leads us to expect an extremely exciting final," explained Monika Reule, Managing Director of the German Wine Institute (DWI), which organizes the election of the German Wine Queen every year.
