Famille Perrin has acquired a majority stake in the fruit juice manufacturer Alain Milliat. This is reported by the French daily Le Figaro among others. This allows the wine producer to enter the non-alcoholic beverage business. Both companies are based in southern France, and the purchase price is not known.
Even after the acquisition, both companies want to "continue their activities independently, with each maintaining its own identity," according to a joint press release. The goal is a product range that spans from grape juice to premium wines. Alain Milliat also hopes to expand exports. While wine consumption is declining internationally, the demand for non-alcoholic beverages is steadily increasing.
Alain Milliat has been producing fruit juices, lemonades, and other non-alcoholic soft drinks in the premium segment since 1997. Since 2010, they have also offered single-varietal grape juices aimed primarily at wine enthusiasts. Additionally, they produce jams and spreads. The company, based in Valence, sells its products exclusively through delicatessens, top restaurants, and luxury hotels. According to the French industry magazine Vitisphere, Alain Milliat generates annual sales of 20 million euros, with 70 percent in France. The brand is already represented in over 40 countries.
"Fruit is our common language. Famille Perrin and Alain Milliat have never done anything other than observe, respect, and refine it," explains the Perrin family. They manage several hundred hectares of vineyards in the Rhône region in the fifth generation, including in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The company includes the brands Château de Beaucastel, Miraval, Famille Perrin, Domaine du Clos des Tourelles, and La Vieille Ferme.
