On September 19, this year's seven candidates for the crown of the German Wine Queen demonstrated their knowledge of wine in German and English during a one-hour expert survey in the SWR broadcasting studio in Mainz. This was announced by the German Wine Institute (DWI).

The preliminary decision, in which the jury usually selects six finalists, was omitted, because this year the finalists were Eva Lanzerath (Ahr), Jana Petermann (Hessische Bergstrasse), Bärbel Ellwanger (Mosel), Anna-Maria Löffler (Pfalz), Alexandra Unger (Rheingau), Eva Christine Müller (Rheinhessen) and Tamara Luisa Elbl (Württemberg) will only nominate candidates from seven of the 13 German wine regions for the election of the German Wine Queen and all candidates will participate in the final. The other six still reigning regional wine queens will extend their term of office by one year because they could hardly attend any meetings this year.

In the final, which will be broadcast live by SWR television and online, viewers can look forward to an exciting show with high entertainment value on Friday, 25 September from 8.15 p.m., according to DWI. Under the tried and tested moderation of Holger Wienpahl, the candidates must once again convince the jury present with a variety of tasks not only with their knowledge of wine, but also with their personality, eloquence and quick-wittedness.
