Former US Vice President Al Gore will open the Wine and Climate Change Conference from 5 to 7 March 2019 in Porto. Leading scientists and wine producers will discuss new findings on the consequences of climate change on wine.

"We are no longer talking about just climate change, but about solutions to deal with it," said Adrian Bridge, CEO of the investment company Fladgate Partnership, owner of port wine producers such as Taylor-Fladgate, Fonseca and Croft, at the press conference at the Portuguese Embassy in Washington. Speakers at the conference include Miguel Torres, Krug managing director Margareth Henriquez, Swiss biologist and grape variety researcher Dr José Vouillamoz and other renowned scientists and wine experts.

The programme includes lectures and discussions, for example on the "wineries of the future", as well as on "packaging and transport" with aspects on the CO2 footprint. The organisers expect 750 participants from 40 nations at the Alfândega do Porto conference centre.
