The EU Commission has decided to increase its payments to French wine producers for crisis distillation. Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture had expected a reduction of two million hectoliters of wine in the country. In the meantime, the ministry's experts expect 3.3 million hectolitres. The EU decision finances the costs incurred by distillation as well as higher amounts for the winegrowers. Accordingly, they currently receive 83 euros per hectolitre for AOP wines and 63 euros per hectolitre for wines without designation of origin.
With this money, the Ministry of Agriculture wants to stabilise the French wine market, which has been severely affected by the Corona pandemic, and make room in the cellars for the new harvest.
