The online marketplace Ebay has entered into a cooperation with the wine distributor WineDirect and intends to offer wines in Germany from the end of February this year.

With 1,600 affiliated wineries, WineDirect claims to be the market leader in the direct-to-consumer service sector, i.e. wine sales from the producer directly to the end customer. This involves wines that are not usually available online. The collaboration between the two companies "represents the latest addition to Ebay's wine portfolio, which includes collectibles, rare plants and everyday wines based on grape variety, region, price and other criteria," according to a press release.

"We look forward to strengthening small and medium-sized wineries by connecting them to the millions of Ebay customers through our innovative partnership," said Joe Waechter, CEO of WineDirect. "This is a fantastic opportunity for wineries to share their passion and products with new audiences, and for consumers to gain unique access to wines directly from the producer."Alyssa Steele, Ebay's Director of Home & Garden Promotion, said: "This association is the next step in our efforts to enhance our wine division and ensure that buyers have access to fine, rare and everyday wines they will love.
