The wine harvest in Europe has started earlier than ever before. For France, the date of 25 July in the department of Aude is a new record. Since 29 July, Muscat petits grains have been harvested in the Gard department, also the earliest harvest ever in the area. One day earlier, the starting signal for the harvest was given in Italy. There, as usual, it started in Sicily, with Moscato and Pinot Grigio in the Menfi area. Since 1 August, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Bianco have been harvested in Franciacorta.

In all areas, the winegrowers are facing great challenges due to the drought and the great persistent heat and do not expect a large harvest. Some of them are considering replanting their vineyards with appropriately robust grape varieties. Others fear that the classic southern white varieties might not be well received by consumers.
