E.&J. Gallo Winery is the largest wine producer in the world. This is reported by the French news site Les Echos.

According to information from the American market research institute Gomberg, Fredrikson & Associates, Gallo sells 7.2 million hectolitres of wine annually - that's 960 million bottles. For comparison: France's largest wine producer Castel sold 600 million bottles last year; according to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), Germany's total wine production in 2016 amounted to 8.4 million hectolitres. This puts Germany in tenth place among the world's wine producing countries, and the USA in fourth place with 22.5 million hectolitres.

The E.&J.Gallo Winery was founded in 1933 by Ernest and Julio Gallo and is now managed by the third generation of the family. The company is based in Modesto, California, about 100 kilometres east of San Francisco, and employs around 6,500 people.
