Around 12,000 wine fans took part in the second "Virtual Wine Tour" of the German Wine Institute (DWI) from 16 to 25 April. That is almost 50 percent more participants than at the first digital event last November. Once again, winemakers from 88 German wineries presented their wines at 22 online tastings on various topics. They also answered questions from viewers at home on the screen. Already within a few weeks before the start, 3,100 wine packages, each with four large bottles and four 50ml bottles for tasting on screen, were sold out. According to the organisers, 3.8 people watched the online tastings together on one monitor.

The tasting packages have been compiled by the DWI according to 22 different themes in order to demonstrate the "diversity of German wine-growing regions". The online tastings were moderated by the German Wine Majesties Eva Lanzerath, Anna-Maria Löffler and Eva Müller, by the Master of Wine Konstantin Baum, by the President of the Sommelier-Union Germany, Peer F. Holm, the sommelier Toni Askitis and the hiking expert Manuel Andrack. During the tastings, which lasted about an hour, co-moderator "Der Spielmacher" Christoph Friedrich provided live quizzes on his mobile phone for interactive exchange and imparted wine knowledge in a playful way. All 22 digital tastings are available for viewing on weintour.net.

The concept, planning and entire organisation of the "WeinTour" was the responsibility of the wein.plus partner company Wein-Plus Solutions in Munich together with the agency ff.k in Hamburg.
