The German Wine Institute (DWI), in a competition with the mineral water producer Selters and the magazine "Feinschmecker", has identified the "excellent wine gastronomies". They are particularly committed to German wines.

In the category "Gourmet" the expert jury chose the three-star restaurant "Vendôme" in the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg in Bergisch-Gladbach as the winner. In the "upscale gastronomy" category, the prize went to the "A Table" restaurant in Ludwigshafen. The wine bar "Herder Zehn" in Freiberg, Saxony, was awarded in the category "wine gastronomy". The jurors chose the restaurant "Storstad" in Regensburg as the best "international gastronomy" in the competition and the hotel and restaurant "Weinsteige" in Stuttgart came out as the winner in the category "hotel gastronomy". The winner in the category "Gastronomy in general" is the "Bungertshof" in Königswinter.

The jury consisted of Selters managing director Otto J. Völker, the deputy "Feinschmecker" editor-in-chief Gabriele Heins as well as Christina Fischer, Paula Bosch and Gunnar Tietz gastronomy experts. Every year, they set the quality standards for the evaluation of the restaurants. In addition to the scope and quality of the wine on offer, factors such as pricing, staff training, open wine bar and wine events are also decisive for the judgement.
