The German Wine Institute (DWI) has once again awarded the "excellent wine gastronomies" in collaboration with the mineral water bottler Selters and the magazine "Der Feinschmecker". In the competition, restaurants, inns, and bars are honored annually for their special commitment to wines from Germany. The jury included Selters Managing Director Otto J. Völker, the editor-in-chief of "Feinschmecker", Gabriele Heins, as well as sommeliers Paula Bosch, Christina Fischer, and Gunnar Tietz.

The "Grapes Wine Bar" in Munich was awarded as the winner in the wine gastronomy category. The selection of the wine list demonstrates "a profound knowledge of the wine landscape of Germany and is a real treasure for every wine connoisseur.".

In the hotel gastronomy category, "Behl's Genusshotel" in Brennhaus from Blankenbach prevailed. The jury honors the "impressive overall concept" that deserves a place at the top of the industry. It is worth highlighting "the carefully curated sparkling wine and wine list with remarkable vintage depth.".

The "Landhaus Halferschenke" in Dieblich was awarded in the upscale gastronomy category. The family business impressed the jury with its mix of big names, avant-garde winemakers, and talents focusing on the Mosel.

The award for "gourmet gastronomy" went to the restaurant "Gut Lärchenhof" in Pulheim. With an outstanding selection of sparkling wines including disgorgement dates, the beverage menu offers "an unparalleled experience" according to the jury. The wine selection convinces with details and a fairly structured calculation.

In the "Next Generation" category, "Pelican Fly" in Düsseldorf secured the award. It was opened by Tony Askitis with an innovative concept of restaurant, bar, and snack bar as a "meeting point for young and old.".

For the second time, a Selters special prize was also awarded, which this year went to the wine shop "Bahnsteig 1" in Mayschoß on the Ahr. The wine shop impressed the jury with an "extraordinary feel-good atmosphere" and the commitment of owner Thorsten Rech, who rebuilt the family business after the flood disaster with "remarkable courage, great enthusiasm, and a fresh concept.".

The quality standards for assessing the restaurants were, according to their own statements, "set high." In addition to the scope and quality of the wine offerings, factors such as pricing, employee training, open wine dispensing, and the offering of wine events played a decisive role.

The great interest of the gastronomy sector was also unbroken in the tenth edition of the competition. "Once again this year, the jury found it difficult to make a decision, as the quality of the applications was exceptionally high. The gastronomic establishments are excellent examples of how local wines can be harmoniously integrated into innovative gastronomy concepts and presented in an extraordinary atmosphere," explained DWI Managing Director Monika Reule.

The award for "excellent wine gastronomy" is endowed with 2,000 euros each, which can be used for activities related to German wine. In addition, each award winner may engage the German Wine Queen to moderate a wine event.
