Durbacher Winzer eG

The cooperative Durbacher Winzer leases 13 hectares of vineyard land from the former VDP winery Schloss Staufenberg in Baden. This is reported by the local daily newspaper Stadtanzeiger Ortenau. The management of Durbacher Winzer eG has developed a concept that 80 percent of the members have approved. The takeover of the vineyard areas is also associated with exclusive rights to operate the wine shop at Schloss Staufenberg. In the wine tavern at the castle, only wines from the Schloss Staufenberg vineyard and Durbacher Winzer eG will be served in the future.

According to the Durbach Tourist Office, around 800,000 day visitors visit the castle each year, which also has historical significance for viticulture: Here, Margrave Carl Friedrich of Baden first cultivated Riesling varietally in 1782. Since then, the variety has been referred to as "Klingelberger" in Ortenau.

In 2025, the entire property, including outbuildings, gastronomy, VDP winery, vineyards, and naming rights was offered by the family of the Margraves of Baden for 15 million euros (wein.plus reported). According to media reports, negotiations regarding the sale of the castle are still ongoing.
