The production of Italian DOC Sicilia is growing rapidly. In 2018, production will have risen by 173 percent to 80 million bottles, the DOC consortium reports. In 2017, production was still at 29 million bottles. Those responsible had expected 20 million bottles less. The reason is the increased number of companies filling DOC wines. In 2017 it was 126, but last year it was already 350.

The main share of production is accounted for by the Sicilian lead varieties Nero d'Avola with 40 million bottles and Grillo with 15 million.
