In Germany there are currently far too few bottles available for filling the wines. Due to the drastic shortage, winegrowers from all wine growing regions are complaining about significant delays in delivery, said Ernst Büscher of the German Wine Institute (DWI) to the news agency dpa.

The reasons are on the one hand the very large harvest of the 2018 vintage throughout Europe, but also the conversion of the soft drink producer Coca Cola from PET to glass bottles. This demand can hardly be covered. In addition, there are capacity problems at German glassworks. Currently, three glass melting furnaces of large manufacturers in southern and eastern Germany are out of operation because they have to be repaired and maintained every ten years. As a result, green one-litre bottles have been almost unavailable for several weeks now, reports dpa. There is also a massive shortage of white glass.
