From 1 September, Deutsche Bahn will be offering four German wines on its long-distance trains. Deutsche Bahn is relying on well-known winemakers such as Johannes Leitz from the Rheingau with his dry Riesling 2019 "One-Two-Dry" as well as on up-and-coming talents. These include the young winemaker Juliane Eller from Alsheim with a dry 2019 Pinot Gris and David Spies from Dittelsheim-Heßloch with a semi-dry 2019 Merlot Rosé. The red wine comes from the up-and-coming winemaker Christian Hirsch from Württemberg with the 2018 "Rot und Wild" cuvée.
The German Wine Institute (DWI) supported Deutsche Bahn for the selection of the new wine list with the tender as well as the undercover selection tasting. Last year, wine sales on Deutsche Bahn's ICE and IC trains amounted to around 660,000 bottles of red and white wine.
