81.5 percent of the restaurants and cafés stated in a recent survey by the German Restaurant and Hotel Association (Dehoga) that operation with the Corona-related restrictions was not possible. Thus, 83.5 percent of the establishments report that their sales expectations were not fulfilled after opening. According to the survey, only 21.8 percent of those surveyed reported sales losses of less than 50 percent. 31.9 percent achieved sales between 25 and 50 percent compared to the previous year. 29.1 percent of the businesses achieved sales between 10 and 25 percent of the previous year's figures, 17.3 percent of the businesses achieved less than 10 percent of the usual sales.
"The companies (...) are standing with their backs to the wall due to the applicable distance regulations and contact restrictions," commented Dehoga President Guido Zöllick on the survey results. "The current figures prove the catastrophic exceptional situation in which the industry has found itself for almost three months now
According to the survey, the companies expect a decline in sales of at least 55 percent for the year as a whole. "No or only low revenues with current fixed costs illustrate the existential impact on almost all companies", said Zöllick clearly. He is calling for quick compensation from state funds.
