The National Federation of Crémant Producers and Manufacturers (FNPEC) published positive sales figures for the current year at a press conference in Paris. The market has recovered since the beginning of 2021 and should reach the level of 2019 again by the end of the year. Exports in particular are the driving force here. After record sales of 90 million bottles in 2019, sales of the eight crémant appellations had fallen to 75 million in 2020 due to the covid pandemic. The most important import countries for Crémant remain Belgium, the United States, Italy, Scandinavia as well as Germany and the Netherlands. The export share varies between five and 50 per cent, depending on the appellation, with more than half of Crémant de Loire exported, followed by Crémant de Bourgogne, he said.

"We expect that by the end of the year we will have more or less reached the 2019 retail figures. For exports, this has already happened and we should even exceed them by the end of 2021," Edouard Cassanet, vice-president of the Fédération Nationale des Producteurs et Élaborateurs de Crémant (FNPEC) and director of the Lugny winery (Saône-et-Loire) told the press.

The decrease in volume expected for the 2021 harvest should not be a problem: As sales have been slowed down in 2020, availability is guaranteed without any problems, he said. The target of 100 million bottles sold in 2025, set at the 2019 general assembly, is to be maintained.
