In 2024, 271.4 million bottles of Champagne were sold worldwide. This represents a decrease of 9.2 percent from the previous year, as reported by Comité Champagne.

While 118.2 million bottles were delivered in France, 153.2 million bottles were exported. The decline in the domestic market is 7.2 percent, while exports fell by 10.8 percent. However, the export share of 56.4 percent of total sales remains significantly above the Champagne sales in France. This confirms the long-standing trend.

"Champagne is a barometer for the mood of consumers and buyers worldwide. And they are not in a celebratory mood amidst inflation, global conflicts, economic uncertainty, and political indecision in some of the largest Champagne markets, such as France and the USA," said Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of Comité Champagne.

David Chatillon, President of the Union des Maisons de Champagne and Co-President of Comité Champagne, added: "Especially in less favorable times, we must prepare for the future: We will maintain our course regarding environmental protection, exploring new markets, and attracting new consumers. Champagne is a solid and sustainable organizational model that has proven itself even in difficult times."
